I have compost pile like this! It hasn't grown that big yet, but we have dozens of squashy-looking plants coming up. Cucumbers? Melons? Zucchini? Who knows! Mystery food!
I found your blog through profile search. I look forward to reading more. :.)
Anyone who doesn't have a compost heap like that is either lying, or needs to get out of their garden more. Apropos skunks, happy or otherwise - we have feral skunks in the UK http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1203529/Hold-nose-Colony-wild-skunks-UK.html
And there are millions of raccoons in Germany. I remember the unalloyed joy of discovering a raccoon family breaking into our tent after a wonderful hike in Olympic National Park. Not.
We grow Latah tomato, which is excellent, but have never tried Latah squash. Can you grow watermelons?
Hi Rhizowen, I think I can grow watermelons and have about 6-7 varieties planted. Will post some details about them when they start growing. It has been wet and cool here the last few weeks but today it is warm and sunny! :,) Things are going to really start growing soon. I also hope I get my sweet potato slips from Sandhill Preservation soon.
I don't know anything about Latah squash other than I bought the seeds from the Moscow Co-op and they are from Orchard Farm http://www.localharvest.org/farms/M37756.
